Biolin Scientific is a premium instrument provider and our products are high-tech precision instrument for research within surface, material and bio-science, drug discovery and diagnostic applications. 

We focus on service and application support for our customer, as well as on technology development and knowledge. Our products are based on advanced measurement techniques, and all of our technologies are unique, patented or have earned industry leadership through long term experience and development. Our core strategy is to build competence in scientific areas with great commercial potential, and apply our technologies in these fields. Our product portfolio currently consists of six different product lines:

- Q-Sense – analytical instruments for characterization of interfaces and molecular interaction
- Sophion QPatch - high throughput patch clamp solutions for functional characterization of living cells
- Attension – range of tensiometry equipment for interface science and materials development
- KSV NIMA – instruments for thin film fabrication and characterization
- Osstell – diagnostic system for implant integration based on RFA technique

Main customer segments are academic research, research institutes and the industrial sector. In academic research, customers invest in analytical instruments for the purpose of specific basic or applied research projects or as a general tool for the lab, always with the aim to produce good research that can be published for peer review in scientific journals. In research institutes, the aim is normally to conduct specific research or development projects that have been ordered by a customer or a principal. In the industrial sector, analytical instruments are used both for general research purposes and specific development tasks, but also for quality and process control purposes. The dominating customers in the industrial sector are very large global corporations.

We have customers in more than 70 countries. Research and development is a truly global activity, where discoveries and findings are spread quickly throughout the world through the publication of scientific articles and new product introductions from global corporations. For Biolin Scientific, it is an advantage that our products can be designed by our product companies for a fairly homogenous international market.

A special group of customers for Biolin Scientific, is the researchers and clinicians dealing with dental implants. Implants have been a popular object of research during the last 25 years. Osstell launched its first diagnostic system about 10 years ago, to provide an accurate measurement tool for researchers that study the osseointegration process of implants with different surface chemistry or design. Since then, Osstell has also been established as a diagnostic instrument for oral surgeons, periodontists and implant dentists, utilizing Osstell to monitor stability of dental implants during the treatment. Some 130.000 clinicians throughout the world are involved in dental implant treatment, and that number is growing every year as dental implants become a more and more established and popular treatment.
